Can't connect PSP to wireless network

24 replies 86710 views Edited Jan 6, 2011

I just now traded my old DS to a older model PSP the 1001 series.  I have connected wireless before back when I had my old psp and a different modem.  I am trying now to connect with a NetGear WNR2000v2 router.

The PSP is detecting the router and I've got a 100% signal strength but it will not connect.  The wireless network does have a security key and the laptop will connect.  My PS3 is connected wired to the router btw.

I scan and it picks up the network as WPA-PSK (TKIP); it picks up the SSID.  I choose WLAN security setting WPA-PSK (TKIP) and enter in the passcode and it will not connect.  I've tried switching to the WPA-PSK (AES) which is what the laptop connectiion says and it still doesn't connect.

I've already updated to the latest firmware as well.  I just want to download Tetris....can I connect the PSP to the PS3 and do that?

Sorry about all the questions.

Thanks.

I had this prolem when I got my PSP 1001.  I fixed it by manually entering all the information.  As a last resort you can always download Tetris to your PS3 and transfer it to the PSP.

I tried to enter manually and got the error message that the connection timed out.  I don't like not being able to figure out something with this. My router says its compatiable with b/g/n  standards.  Is it not compatible with the PSP?

UPDATE::

Okay I've looked through the board and tried to figure out what's going on here with this PSP.  If I completely disable the security then the PSP connects just fine.  One message said that WPA2-PSK (AES) is the best to use with the PSP but when I try that the PSP says the security is not supported.  I traded a ds to this psp so its not new.  The ps3 will connect; just changed the password.

I don't know what to do:  Do I do a restore on the PSP?  And then update the firmware again?  I'm running the latest firmware on the PSP and it installed fine.

I also bought a used PSP but its a GO, but I have exactly the same problem as you I'm trying to find a fix to this, the only difference I tried was connecting to a router that doesnt support N and WPA2-PSK when i did that it connected. But my primary router is a b/g/n with WPA2/PSK AES and it will not connect to the router

The only way I could ever get my psp to connect was to turn off all the security on the router then it would connect.

The PSP supports WPA, but not WPA2. For maximum security and speed, use WPA-PSK (AES).

dragon672, if you don't have any wireless n devices, try the mixed b/g mode instead of b/g/n mode. The PSP-1000 is a wireless b device. Maybe there is an incompatibility with wireless b, wireless security, and your mixed b/g/n network.

Psp is not compatible with all routers and sercurity. All else fails I would get a different router. I use netgear worked no problem

I use

WPA-PSK + WPA2-PSK

I just got minw working on a Netgear 3500 v2 router and only way i could get it to work was to set the mac address up in the router.

I don't exactly know which setting is for the b/g connection on this router.  I guess the lower connection speed is the band setting correct?
