One thing is you should not have put the demo anywhere, Media Go or the PSN will install it to where it is needed.
Also your PSP will have to be activated for the account you used to download the demo, I would guess that you have a different account under account management on your PSPs XMB.

Has your PSP been logged in and activated on the same account that your son used to download the game? If so try downloading it again, otherwise go to account management on your PSP and press triangle and then delete (remember your account username and password for when you need it again) and then enter his details and connect to the PSN to log in and activate your PSP. Or this can be done through Media Go software on a PC.

How did you connect to download the game? If you used a wireless internet connection and your PSP you should have had to type in your sons username and password to access his download list, this would have then activated your PSP to his account and you could play the game, using the PS3 and Media Go software there should be similar warnings or options to change the accoutn on your PSP to match the account of the purchased software.
