You are a little confused regarding your terminilogy. You want the PS3's browser to perform like FireFox, not be compatible with it. It is true that the PS3's browser sucks but we are talking about a gaming console here. Any other extra features are nothing more than add-ons. Many websites use Flash to display their content and have migrated to version 10. The PS3's browser doesn't work with Flash 10. The best solution would be to purchase a PC. Don't tell me you can't afford one either. Best Buy is selling a AMD dual-core Dell desktop for $220 and an Acer net-top with the Nvidia ION platform, either one can handle full 1080p videos and the latest Flash videos without issues (even the HD ones). $200 is just a little more than 3 games. That is definitely something that you can save up for. I was a college student pulling in money from my parents. I ended up saving a few dollars here and there that added up to enough to buy the Xb*x 36* when it launched (the premium edition as well). Lastly, the PS3 was built for HDTVs. That has been the whole movement with two next-gen consoles ever since they launched in 2005 and 2006. You really have to purchase an HDTV in order to take full advantage of the PS3.
Now, don't take my post and hammering on you. I am not a blind blu-goggle fanboy who would follow Sony into the depths of hell. I am simply stating my opinion and the facts. I do agree with you that the PS3's browser sucks but the amount of users who just have a PS3 (and no PC) really represent a small percentage of the minority market. Sony does things with the PS3 that are profitable. Obviously adding increased browser functionality isn't at the top of their list or they would have fixed things back when the PS3 first launched. It likely isn't very profitable and PC browsers will always be better. Sony has an uphill battle with the PS3's browser and it looks like they aren't doing anything about it. Don't like the browser? Don't use it. Go with something else that you know is solid.

Just so you know, OP, I don't believe Sony has any control over the competence of the NetFront browser. That browser is the property of Access Co., Ltd., and I imagine Sony and and Access Co. shook hands on paper, re: the browser being on Sony's console. If anyone's going to improve the console, it'll be Access, and that should pass along to Sony, from which they'll incorporate into some future firmware update... and so on.
Correct me if I'm wrong, guys. Always welcome the correction.

What is wrong with the web browser? Most web sites I goto don't display properly or don't work. Why did Sony make thier own browser that isn't compatible with other browsers? And before someone says buy a PC... I can't afford one. It seems to me that Sony is catering to those with HDTV and PC's, what about us ps3 owners that have neither of those items. Seriously, I can't even sign my email addy up for the Sodium space becuase i can't read the registration code on my SDTV. Please fix the stupid web browser so it's firefox compatible at least. Flame on.
I have an idea! Install Yellow Dog Linux 6.xx.. This is an OS for the PS3, and you will be able to use FireFox for linux for the web browser! Here is the link below on how to install and download the DVD iso file!
http://terrasoftsolutions.com/ I have not yet installed it on my system, but I downloaded the installation guide and the dvd iso. This is a Linux os for the PS3. Best one I have read about.. The installation guide explains about installing on a PS3..
Good Luck! Yes, I do know the actual web browser on the PS3 is crap!!

Well I would obviously get a PC but i only make less than 200 per week... rent is 80% of my paycheck... games... well I own 2. from the realease of the 60 gig.... Yes, I'm poor as hell. And I can tell you horror stories about how sony treats its costumers through its only console MMO. Really sad. Sony is out to make as much money as possible as they stomp on its consumer base. As far as web browser, i would install linux but I hear they will be producing a patch that eliminate that function sometime in the future. You're right about everything you said though. If I had the money I wouldn't have this issue BTW, games I have: original Oblivion and Fallout 3
Are you talking about FFXI?

FireFox and Linux on the PS3 would be nice except that many websites use Flash. Flash has to be compiled for the PS3 and, even after that, performance is piss poor. My netbook runs better when it comes to standard definition Flash videos. It can now even play 1080p Flash videos with little to no problems (that will be fixed whenever Flash 10.1 is finalized).

No, EQOA. They haven't did an update since about march or august. Sometimes it's hard to get problems solved too from the admin. Yellow dog eh? I was thinking Red hat. I have to find someone to burn the iso though. Is it true that they have plans to do a firmware update that does away with the other OS feature? I hope it's not true.
