Re: ps3 won't recognize external hard drive

Apr 3, 2012

an update to the above:

1st - I cannot copy/transfer any files over 4gb to the newly fat32 formatted drive!!! (bummer)

2nd - ps3 does not recog. *.mkv files!! (another bummer)

3rd - MUSIC - folders and subfolders work!!! on the ps3, but the PICTURE folder does not - not sure if its got to do with size again - as I have a folder that has just over 2900pics within subfolders.

4th - movies under 4gb - if you have sub files with those movies, ps3 will not recog. those sub files - so there goes your subtitled movies! (bummer on)...

Any solutions to the above from the community is greatly appreciated.

Re: ps3 won't recognize external hard drive

I've been trying all day....

-WD 750GB, updated

-Formatted Fat32 (tried primary and logical)

-Set up folders on root (PS3<PICTURE/MUSIC/VIDEO/GAME) Tried without PS3 folder and tried different capitalizations.

-USB 2.0 connecting it to PS3

-No other USB ports taken up on PS3

-PS3 is updated

-No folders show up on PS3

-When I try to back up it reads: Connect storage media at the save desitination

There are store brands sold at local places like walmart and the such that some are formatted Fat32 and others that are not.  There are even some models within a brand that will work while others (out of the box) will not.  In any case formatting them will make them work for the PS3.

There is no solution to these issues.  They are the limits of Fat32.

I believe there is a limit on PS3 of 1TB.  I have not seen larger then 1TB in one partition.  I would suggest you make a few partitions less then 1TB.
