mkv

I am having real difficulty trying to play mkv video files on my ps3.
I tried to convert it using ps3video9, but didn't work at all. The output video file was 15MB while the original was 4GB.
Do you know any other ways?

Re: mkv

Ummm....mkv files as a rule, suck! You'd do better converting from the original DVD to the PS3.

Re: mkv

Yeah but, the original DVD isn't 720p. The MKV files I've seen are from an HD source... which you can't get from a DVD.

I'm working on getting MKV files to encode properly but, haven't quite gotten it figured out. I think it's a codec issue.

EDIT:

Found this on another forum. Wil have to try when I get home (I'm at work) or, you could try it for me and let me know.

"goto http://www.redkawa.com/videoconverters/ps3video9/
download ps3 video 9 latest version 2.25

run ps3 video 9
choose convert tab
under that you will see current conversion tab click that

now you will see one click convert and convert video buttons
choose convert video button and select your mkv file you wish to change

you can also see :
title
devide
profile

title it if you like
device ps3
profile choose MKV passthrough stereo/160kbps

this will change the MKV to mp4 in a matter of minutes without having to re-encode the whole file

have fun"

Re: mkv

That is the one I used. The output file was 200 times smaller than the original.
I will try it again.

Re: mkv

I too have a great deal of mkv files that I'd like to play on my ps3.

I used ps3video9 just now and the output file is of the correct size and plays fine on my computer, and is recognizable as an mp4. Unfortunately I can't get to my ps3 at the moment. If this works, it would certainly be easier than waiting for 8 hours to re-encode the file.

Re: mkv

Okay, guys... what use is it converting the HD files or whatever your doing to play on the PS3 if it doesn't even play surround sound? AVI files are the way to go, guys!

Re: mkv

I've no idea what the problem is with your guys' files, but I checked mine and PS3 Video 9 turned the mkv file I tried it on into a working mp4 that does play on my ps3 and is the proper size.

So it does work. At least it did in my case.

I assume you guys have all the right codecs and followed the instruction in that post when converting?
