PS3 Media Server Can't Find My PS3

9 replies 40514 views Edited Feb 12, 2010

Hi,

I'm trying to connect my ps3 to my pc.  I've tried PS3 Media server, TVersity, and WMP 11.  I've followed all the instructions but neither application can find my ps3.  I'm running XP, upnp is enabled, and the ports are open via windows firewall.  My friend's pc can connect to my ps3 no probs and he's using the same setup as i am.

using ps3 media server I see in the trace a "successful" message  TRACE 13:45:28.125 It's ready! You should see the server appears on XMB but the status screen still has a big red X.

Any help?

Hi,

Dunno what PS3 media server version you are using, but they are all essentially the same. Otherwise try to download and install the latest build from here

Have you tried this first?

* force network on interface (dropdown): Perhaps PMS sends network broadcasts on the wrong network card/virtual interface (like if you using hamachi). If PMS doesn’t detect your PS3 choose your correct network card.
* force port of server: if TCP/IP port 5001 already is in use set a free alernate port number like 6001
* Use IP-filter: set IP-address of allowed streaming client (PS3), all other will fail to connect (not working when HTTP Engine v2 is enabled!)

Don't bother with PS3 media server.  It's buggy and mine was killed by a JAVA update so I figured out how to stream media and share files with my PS3.  You don't PS3 media server it to access your files on your computer. I am assuming you are running XP, Vista, or Windows 7. This is all you need to do:

1. Click on the arrow under the Library ( from Windows media Player)
2. Click More Options
3. Library
4. Configure Sharing
5. Check Share my Media
6. You should see under share my media an icon (unknown device) that's your PS3
7. Click on it and allow then click ok.

Hope this helps.

Actually I disagree, PS3 Media may be bad, but WMP11 is completely worthless!

You can't play certian files, can't use subtitles.

WM11 is just good for what ever video wm11 could play on pc, or lets just say it's good for home made movies.

I had this problem a while ago.

It has something to do with the port.

Go to General Configuration> Network Settings, change etc> Force Port of the Server (5001 be default)> enter 1900 like I did.

if problem occurs, download the latest PS3 Media Server. With new ps3 media server, try using different port numbers til you get a successful connection.

i tried wmp11 first as it was the easiest but there are no devices showing to select.  the dropdown is empty.  I've looked for help online and the only thing that was suggested was to enable upnp, which i did, but nothing shows up still.

Then you have a network error.  If both services are telling you they do not see your PS3 then then it's not either service.

Blackzing:

Wow you aren't being condescending and a bit rude at all no sir....

Fact is I tries PS3 media server and founf it to be far too tempermental.  When a JAVA update broke it I got rid of it and went to streaming driectly w/o it.  The headaches that come with it outweigh any benefits you get from using it.  I have no issues with medial player streaming.

Re: PS3 Media Server Can't Find My PS3

Jun 5, 2010

forcing port 5001 worked. Mine has worked for a while but i haven't used it for a month or so and i thought it was an update on Sony's part. They obviously don't want us to do certain things with our PS3's already. I was bummed when i turned everything on to see that the PS3 couldn't be found by PS3 Media Server after it worked for 4 months. The biggest reason i got this thing was to play Blu-Ray and stream movies and music to it. I don't even plays games on it. Anyway, thanks for the tip. BTW Windows Media Player 11 is def a joke.

Re: PS3 Media Server Can't Find My PS3

Jan 19, 2012

I have just fixed it...the PS3 couldn't find a ip address so had to restart my router now its ok...Smiley Very Happy

Try that if you have a problem..

But first check network setting on the PS3 and click on Internet Connection Test then if you can't find a ip address then

restart your router..leave it off for about 30 seconds..

Span..
