My thoughts typed here come from the perspective of someone who thought the NES game was one of the top 3 best titles on the NES, and it is my most many times played thru video game in the history of video games topping over 200 playthrus (you know its short on the NES, single sitting). I knew it so well I could play without dying once.
So on with it.
I dont get the reviewer smack on RA2. If the game ever had a sequel on the SNES this is what I am guessing it would evolve as. I feel like it would have been a major hit on the SNES and feel like its really a great sequel to the original game on the PS3.
FIRST - the controls: Its an evolution of the controls sure - just like the 3D game is. The point is its still side scrolling well made flavour and should be able to evolve and be respected. As someone who had mastered the original NES game I can say that I appreciate the new challenges, new modalities "jumping" and the new stage types and am glad we are not just seeing a bionic commando rearmed map pack. This is a whole new game . A true sequel. If you were great at the original game, you will oddly and frustratingly stumble thru the initial area of RA2. They honestly just reversed a few things and you will feel upside down at first. Its more like the new PS3 rebirth game in some ways. But once you get it- it snaps and you appreciate the refinement over the first game. I feel like I can play this better and do stunt moves easier and it just flows better once you get over that you suck till you relearn it.
Second the music honestly rocks more an the first game and the enemies so far have been more interesting.
GFX are similar here but the game engine has many tweaks and enhancements.
web reviewers once again are braindead - go check everyones review of the original Monster Hunter on PS2. Look how the sods changed their tone now. Its the same game morons. These guys dont know gaming.

I have this game as well and I really like it. It does have a learning curve, but it really something you can get used to in about a half an hour. I do like the jump button cus it does give the game a bit of finesse when you doing the stunts. If I had to rate this game I would definitly give it a 7.5.Not much has changed except for the jump button, and they did take away the verses mode. I really wished that they included online multiplayer. That would have bump my score for this game.
