Do u need a credit card when you buy the xbox live gold package from somewhere like bestbuy? Or do you just enter that info and not use a cc.

Yeah, it's a rip-off.. I don't see any difference in playability online from the 360 to the PS3. I just call and complain and they send me a free month Xbox Live subscription. It won't work forever though.

Alright.  Here's a summary.

Xbox Live Silver: free, basic xbox llive privelages, xbox live marketplace, no online multiplayer for your games
Xbox Live Gold: 50-60 bucks a year, all of silver privelages, and multiplayer for your games
You can subscribe to Xbox live gold with cards you buy in stores if you want to avoid credit cards
MS points are used to buy certain content in the marketplace (additional content for games, XBL arcade games)
