I think the remake ruined The Thing's reputation,it used too much computer animation like with the terrible remake of the awesome classic The Shining.

There is no 'remake'.  There is the prequel (most recent) and then there is the sequel (original).

And this is a tough question.

- Alien

- Aliens

- Predator

- The Thing

- Event Horizon

- The Fifth Element

- Starship Troopers

- The Terminator

- Terminator 2: Judgement Day

- RoboCop

You could pretty much rattle off a bunch of sci-fi stuff from the 80s and 90s that I'd flick to if they're ever on =\

I still don't understand how we got Aliens vs Predator with the wrong formula Smiley Indifferent  How someone botches that is amazing.  AMAZING.  Take 'Aliens', throw in some Predators on top of the Aliens and Colonial Marines and you have what fans want.  They completely screwed up with both attempts (both on Earth, one in Antarctica with simply 3 Predators, the other in a small town with 1 Predator cleaning up the mess of a PredAlien).  Seriously, Aliens + Predator + Colonial Marines + Space (Colony, Space Station) + Action = Win.  Hollywood Ladies and Gentlemen Smiley Indifferent

no sequel tells the story where the prequel stopped, the newer shining movie tells the same exact story therefore it is a remake not a sequel.

Was referring to The Thing.  The most recent 'The Thing' is a prequel to the original.

EDIT: Also, thanks for explaining what a 'sequel' and 'remake' are.  Didn't know...Smiley Indifferent

I love The Thing and The Thing.

The most recent The Thing is a prequel. In no way does it harm The Thing prior.

John Carpenter's The Thing is so well crafted, it's incredible to watch. The prequel is different, but keeps the story going the right direction. What really happened back there. There was an ending scene that bleeds into The Thing 1983 so well, it was very pleasing to see that in the theatre.

Favorites then:

The Thing

Distric 9

Sunshine

Star Trek reboot

Tron Legacy

Terminator (I like them all)

Predator

Pitch Black

Independence Day

The Matrix

Stargate

The Fifth Element

Minority Report

The Andromeda Strain <---- I really did like this when I was younger. I made my kids watch it some years ago. Robot Embarassed  Time was slower when I was younger.

edit: oops! Forgot a couple!

John Carpenters, The Thing, first and foremost. Then, The Fly remake with Jeff Goldblum, and The Mad Max trilogy . There are plenty more but these are my go to favorites. On a side note, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, is actually my all time go to movie. I watch it at LEAST 2-3 times a month.

Blade Runner

Robocop

Aliens

Start Trek II: Wrath of Khan

Donnie Darko

The Terminator

John Carpenter's The Thing

I would put the Empire Strikes Back, but I consider that to be science fantasy, as opposed to science fiction.
