whats the point between blue ray and hd dvd and a regular dvd

whats the point spending 5000bucks just to have ur picture a little bit better  im happy with my regular dvd and my regular tv

    I thought DVD was 7.4 gigs

And HD DVD was 20 gigs

and BD 50gigs

u all are tellign me that one holds more infomation then another pointless,..........wasting money when companies put one movie on these little discs Blu-ray not bad you might  be able tp put them in a computer and put .zip or word files onit

Actually, the capacities are a little off
 
DVD - 17GB (double sided dual-layered on each side) or 8.5GB per side (dual-layer).
 
HD-DVD - 30GB
 
Blu-ray - 50GB part of the official spec, 200GB unofficial spec.
