But with 3 axis, you can plot any point or whatever you want. with 2 axis you could do a 2 deminsional thing, but with 3 you could do anything, the other 3 would be redundant.  Thats assumign the ps3 controler works on a tilt sensor, and the location to where its tilted is given a point say (32, 56, 71) then you move the controler it could be (23, 91, 42).  if you had 6 it would be pointless.... as you only need 3...

well i think the guy means that the dpad and the 2 analogs. Call them 3 'axis'. But they arent axises. It would have to be 6 axises

Because sixaxis is sixaxis backwards... With threeaxis it would be sixaeerht backwards... It wouldn't make sense. This way it does.

In the world of gyroscopes which are able to process motion on a 3d graph, there are only 3 axis. I don't believe you know what axis are, so hopefully you are able to understand after I try explaining this too you.

Perhaps you might of ran into the terminology of axis before in mathematics. There are three axis overall (x,y,z). A gyroscope has a constant spinning motion creating rotation inertia. This inertia gives the gyroscope the ability to detect when it's being tilted, scewed, etc using sensors. The angle is then registered in polar coordinates.

Sony just used the term six axis since they are running two gyroscopes within the controller.

Wii has 6 axises (I cant find the link right now, but i did read it on nintendo.com)
PS3 has 6 axises (Click on Control)
