Shouldn't we pay more attention to the "whos and whats" of our government?

You are essentially asking "should we pay attention to politics?" And I say YES.

People are too ignorant of politics and will happily listen to Rachel Maddow, Chris Matthews, or Sean Hannity over reading an article and forming an opinion. They listen to extremist news commentators and take this as "news".

If you read news articles, for example, the government shutdown is CLEARLY a result of both parties being stubborn. But, depending on which news commentator you watch, you end up with "the Republicans are just being stupid people who hate the poor" and "the stupid Democrats who want to make us a massive socialist state like Nazi Germany".

People need to pay attention and think for themselves. But why think when money-driven news sources are happy to make their shows radically entertaining?

Other countries have their own problems to worry about. ESPECIALLY European countries. People talk about how unsustainable the US is (it is), but they forget how much worse Europe is. At least we have natural resources to fall back on. European nations are only so well off because they took advantage of other nations first. The major economic powerhouse in Europe is not the UK or France. It is Germany.

They laugh at our lack of "free" healthcare. I laugh out their sinking ship. There is a reason China is happy to loan us money. We are stil economically viable.

Other countries laugh at us the same amount we laugh at other countries and same amount they laugh at each other...

Please don't fall into the missconception that the "rest of the world is laughing at us" means we are the laughing stock of the planet or are somehow failures...

Also I feel like when it comes to China, the reason they are so willing to 'loan' us money is because we outsourced our economy to them.
