1080p is pretty overrated IMO, the developers haven't even started taking advantage of it.

I've heard that 720p is best gaming wise.

no 1080p is best for large screens like 48"+ and 720p is better for smaller screens like 32" and below, they both have advantages.  Its just 1080p is way more expensive than 720p

48+ or 32 and below wow lol i have a 42" so what about me ha ha ha

lmao42" id go with 1080p i think but i dunno

ok i had a 53" rearprojection HD-TV and now i have a 42" sony wega LCD HD-TV witch is also rearprojection and all i can say is the wega is awsome great picture quality

Considering that you can get displays, although designed with computers in mind, can play 1080p (1680x1050, in this case - not complete 1080p, but quite close)... and that these displays are under $600, for the Samsung 215TW, or the Gateway FPD2185, and a couple others that have HDCP-compliant DVI-d inputs, component, s-video, and composite inputs, as well as VGA inputs... ... I do believe that a very close option to 1080p has just become much more affordable for the masses

Sure, the latest and greatest 1080p television set, retailing around $1800 all the way to $4000 might look nice, but for resolution junkies who don't mind sitting back to relax in a close-quarter gaming environment, the smaller PC monitors are a much better option.

With that, I think everything should opt for 1080p, but not only that, since rendering a game at a lower resolution is always possible, I wish developers would put an end to games that only output through one mode. Like if a game were to only output at 1080p... that's sorta lame. If it can do that, why not add in support for 1080i, 720p, and 480p as well. doesn't make sense to me why they'd omit that.

1080p and Blu-ray didn't save these PS3 games version from looking far worse and lowe frame rates on the PS3 then Xbox 360 version.

ConclusionThe Xbox 360 had better graphics in almost all the games we examined. The 360's biggest victories were in Madden 07 and Fight Night Round 3, where the differences in texture detail and lighting stood out in our comparison shots. We couldn't capture this in the screenshots, but the Xbox 360 games generally offered better framerates too.

You do know what website you linked that from right? Gamespot ain't exactly Sony friendly.

Doesn't matter though, it's all about gameplay. Look at the PS2 vs. Xbox

Well, most of those games were designed with the 360 in mind, so the textures and stuff didn't translate well.

Where exactly are the PS3 games? With your theory, the xbox 360 is superior becasue the game library is already awesome. All becasue of the year head start

Pfff it's pretty easy to tell your opinion doesn't count if you play an inferior shooter like Socom.

Key Points made by the source
*Bungie now have an internal test build of Halo 3 running at true 1080p at 60fps. This is not finalised code there are performance issues to optimise.

*Bungie's No1 priority is that Halo 3 will be 100% compatible with the Xbox 360 Core (which has no hard drive.) In the largest levels with max players there is some lag, a change to 30fps might be necessary to maintain high performance

*True 1080p wont be available in the public beta next month, but the Beta will be used to gauge related issues.

*Some voices at Bungie felt that it's better to run Halo 3 at 720p and then upscale to 1080p

Two other major titbits.
* The next true Halo sequel (Halo 4?) will use a new game engine and depending on everything, could be a launch title for the new Xbox in 'Fall' 2010/11.
