how can the motion of a pendulum illustrate the exchange between potential and kinetic energy. What will happen if a small amount of friction is in the pivot?

1. A pendulum at the height of its swing (aka up) has the max potential energy, which becomes kinetic on the way down.
2. Friction will cause the pendulum to not swing as far.

Btw what grade are you in?

this guy knows whats up

I'm just going to give you a tidbit of help. Think of potential energy as when the pendulum is not moving. And kinetic is when the pendulum is moving. Now just think in your mind about the relation of the two.

Potential when it is at the very end of it's swing, then it converts to kinetic? And the friction would put an imbalance in how it swings.
