Your creed, your motto

Do you have a particular adage that you live by? Is there a proverb out there that you find rings true? Do these mottos, maxims, and whatnot define you? Are they just guidelines? Or do they just sound cool?

Until recently, I thought I had two mottos that worked well for me. However, after thinking on them for a bit, I realized that no, I've outgrown them.

A motto that was recently passed on to me via a hilarious series of events that you won't find at all amusing (it's not serious, just not that funny), is

Poise and control.

Naturally, maintain your composure at all times, and always be in control, whether it's of yourself or the situation. It's something I'm going to try and keep in the back of my mind from now on.

What's yours?

Oh my. This is a hard one indeed. I am a person of discussion. I truly want to have discussions with people. Debates, arguments, etc. I cannot just say "hello" every day and be your buddy. I want to KNOW you. I want to analyze your thinking. I want to have fun, but I need depth outside of the fun.

This one I try to follow, but I'll admit, it's more easy to go for the last two than it is the first.

I wish I was poised and in control all of the time. Or before I behave in a uncouth manner under stressful circumstances.

That being said. It would be that "I wear my heart on my sleeve".

Not a motto per se, but an idea that spills itself at my feet often:

Now is the time, yesterday and tomorrow are never now. Don't dwell in yesterday or put off everything to tomorrow. Now is the only place to live, with a mind of reverence towards yesterday and tomorrow so to always be the best you can be now.
