Re: Why bring a child into this world?

I dont want kids. Think I'd adopt if I ever changed my mind. World is too crowded as it is.

I was thinking about adopting an older child. More mature in age and all. Plus, the way kids work is they cost a ton at first, then they don't cost too much, then they cost a ton again. If I got a child in between the ages of 7-11, all would be well.

Idk, it's just a thought. I am serious about adopting though. Smiley Happy

No.

The world's resources are constantly being depleted. By the time my kid is 20 the cost of living will be so high it would be hard for them to live comfortably.

So really, it's better if I don't.

Sure, when I'm 40 that is. 20 more years to go.

I don't see why not to.

The answer to "why we want to have children" is easy- we have a biological desire to have them.

But why have them? It creates a level of co-dependency among husband and wife. It is something to shower your love upon. And you get to leave something for the world after you die.

This is actually an old argument.  I remember seeing Mike and Gloria arguing about this on All In The Family.  You might catch this on MeTV.  It was filmed in the 1970's.

Let's look at the question itself.  You rightly understand that this is a corrupted world, nearly unfit for people to live in.  But is this really something new?  No.  The world has been horrible for centuries now and for the same reason.  People.  People are the worst.  If there were no people, you wouldn't be here to ask the question.

Animals don't ask this.  They procreate because they can.

Yes it's rough bringing a child into this evil world.  But it's usually worth it.  There are no guarantees of course.  Talk to a couple who just had their second child.  Ask them about it.  Then talk to an older couple with no children.  Ask them.

Children are often what you put into them.  If you treat them like garbage they will become garbage.  But if you show them love, teach them the wonders of the world, and impart your wisdom, they can become a marvelous blessing to you.

I think you put too strong emphasis on parenting. Parenting does matter but not to that high extent.

That has been the phrase that has been tossed around ever since the oil crisis of 1973.

Chances are your parents will remember that, but not us who were born after 1975.

Spending time with my daughter and seeing her grow is the best thing that has ever happened to me and I love her more than anything else life has to offer me.

She is the reason I wake up every morning and after living with her I now can't imagine life without her.

That being said children is not for everyone and if you have any doubts you should not have children IMO. There is a lot of children in this world with crappy parents who should have never had kids to begin with.

Also your opinion on kids may all change once you meet that special someone.
