What causes us to become more competetive, more into the game to play countless hours for a virtual reward, i can't help getting them. i already have 2,889 Trophies , 18 Platinums , im still wondering what kept me motivated for that Resistance 2 Platinum im looking back and thinking why? Why is it addicting to earn trophies and see that message ''you have earned a trophy''
Resistance 2 i played for almost 400 hours.
Uncharted 2 i played the online for 400 hours 200 hours on single player and co-op
Uncharted 3 i played for like 300 hours
I have over 135 games on my account with trophies like 30 psn games
It is representive of game companies realizing it is much easier to keep players playing by means of extrinsic rewards as opposed
to intrinsic ones. Humans in general like seeing their numbers increase. They understand this and thus utilize counters and other things. Facebook realizes this and gets ad revenue the more people that actively use Facebook and actively amass more friends; thus they utilize trinkets in games as well as a counter of how many friends/likes somebody has.
Numbers humans don't like seeing increase are on the scales.
Indeed, but think about it. If there wasn't a counter on scores, or on how many trophies people had; would they really care as much?
I think bills and scales are the two main places where we are scared of high numbers.
