But both of them are computer monitors. The CRT one just has a much higher resolution.

Phrased it badly. It should be making it look different then a TV. THe pixel size are different then a regular TV.

The LCD has a higher contrast ratio, most likely.  Just because the maximum resolution is high, doesn't mean that it will necessarily look better to the human eye.  Contrast ratio is big too.

But don't CRT monitors usually produce better dark colors? And both the CRT and LCD monitors are about 2 years old, so I don't think they have any recent picture enhancing technology.

2 years ago, LCd was almost on par with CRT. Now they are ahead. Just like what is said before plug it into both and see which is better.

Why don't you try both and see which looks better yourself?

To hook it up to the CRT monitor, I would have to buy an adapter, and my parents want to spend as little money as possible, and the adapter costs about $8.00. The LCD monitor has the correct gender VGA port, so I wouldn't have to buy an adapter to use it.

1. Buy $8 adapter.
2. Compare it to LCD.
3. Take it back if it's worse.
4. ???
5. Profit.
