Which Gateway Monitor?

5 replies 6 views Edited Nov 28, 2006
Well, I'm having a hard time deciding between the 22" and the 21" Gateway monitors, so I thought some of you could help out maybe. I'll be using this monitor for my 360, PS2, and maybe my computer later on if I choose to get rid of my current monitor for my computer, so that's why I like how the Gateway has so many inputs (composite, component, svideo, vga, dvi).

Gateway 21"
- $350 (says it's $450, but there is a $100 coupon code, making it $350)
Gateway 22" - $400

So for only $50, I could add on another inch, but is it really worth it? Does 1 inch make a big difference?

What I like about the 21" is that it has a 1000:1 contrast ratio, which is pretty uncommon in a computer monitor. The 22" only has a 700:1 contrast ratio, so the 21" wins here. But the 22" does have a 5ms response time while the 21" has an 8ms response time, so the 22" wins here. But the 21" has a height adjustable stand, which would really come in handy for me, and the 22" doesn't for some reason (but I could add it on for another $70.... which I won't be doing, a stand for $70??).

So if someone could please advise me in this area, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm leaning more towards the 21" right now, but the 22" is growing on me because of that extra inch. What's the better value here? Is an 8ms reponse time bad for the 21"? Thanks in advance

I kept on getting an error when I tried editing my original post, so I'll just post it here. Do viewing angles make a difference? The 21" has 178/178 while the 22" only has 160/160. Is that a big difference? Which is better? I'm assuming the 178/178 is better just because the numbers are higher...

The gateway FPD2815W 21" Widescreen High-Definition LCD Flat Panel-Display is superior.

Not only does it have HDCP compliance (so you can use a HDMI to DVI connecting devices, in theory) but it's got:

powered USB hub vs. the unpowered from the 22"
higher contrast ratio (1000:1 vs. 700:1)
Picture in Picture

however neither one mentions the ability to accept & display 1080p for some odd reason... I thought it did, but maybe I was wrong

Samsung's SyncMaster 215TW could be a slightly better option, as it definitely supports 1080p... although certainly won't beat that price
