What places do you miss shopping at for games?

10 replies 142 views Edited Feb 17, 2013

What places do you miss shipping at for games that have closed down.

I personally loved shopping at Funcoland before it became a Gamestop store.  I remember walking in looking at there ad/paper of 100s of games for sale from 0.99 to 5.00 section.  They had great titles for cheap, also great service.  Never had too many workers keep asking you if you need help.  Or try to sell you stuff you didnt want in the first place.  Just thinking about Funcoland takes me back to my kid days.

My second place would be Circuit City, they always had more inventory than BestBuy across the street.

I made this, want one for yourself? PM me

Circuit city had a great selection! They devoted way more space to gaming and carried more inventory. I miss shopping there.

Babbage's for new stuff (err... new for back then).

Local "Game Trader" for the classics and collectibles.

Both were in my local mall, and lined up perfectly.

Babbage's - Stop by to check out what was new and pre-order games.

Suncoast Video - Grab some imported Godzilla VHS tapes and paraphernalia.

Game Trader - Final stop of my day to spend whatever money I had left on hidden gems.

I used to find a lot of good deals on games at Circuit City back in the days of the PS2 era.

Also ebgames back when they were in direct competition with and before they were taken over by GameStop.

I remember going to a funcoland back in 1999.  During the PS1 era.  They had the most rare games at "pawnshop" like prices.

I used to like my local Fry's Electronics.  I could spend hours in that store browsing.  And they always had cute chick workers.

Currently my favorite place is a "mom & pops" type of store called Game Empire in Venice Beach, CA.  I drove 2 hours to this place a couple years ago, because they broke  street date on a certain game I wanted.  They called me one morning as soon as the shipment came in.  A week before the actual release date.

I used to wonder how my friends got games early.  Now I too have a "connection" lol.  Because its 2 hours from where I live, I don't go there often.  But its a good resource to have in case there's a game I can't wait to get.

Wow; I'd forgotten all about Funco.  They used to give away that Game Informer newsletter or whatever they called then with any purchase; it was one of the first mail order companies that I used eons ago.  Locally, I liked Toy Castle and KB Toys before they closed in my area.  I dunno if either exists today, but they always had super deals on older gen games.
