What do you want to be when you grow up?

50 replies 1 views Edited Nov 27, 2006
I'm going to state this here since some people seem to think I am only asking the kids in the forum. I'm 20 years old and I know there are people older than me still trying to follow their dreams.

What do you want to do for a living?

I am currently going to school for Interior Design. After that, I'll be taking courses on massage therapy.

well, I'm 25 and still don't have an answer to that.  Life and intrests are always changing, so I feel its best not to set ones "life" goals too early in life.  But thats IMO of course.

I'm 20 and going towards pharmacy school. However, i like doing business more, so i'm going to become a pharmacist and earn enough money to open a legit business (casino would be nice ) and than enjoy life. That's profession wise, but what i really wanna become is someone who leaves mark in history ( it will happen--- in a good way-- i hope)

You left out all of the members who are already grown up .

Anyway, I'm a professional cellist. When I was in my early teens, I decided that I don't care about money and all I really wanted to do was play my cello. My parents were quite upset; they were hoping for a doctor or something.

I play for stuffy and snobby people a lot, who pretend to understand my music. They just don't get it. But the food is good.

I guess my advice would be to always do what you want, whether there's money in it or not. If you love a profession enough and you work at it, you'll make money, pretty much no matter what it is.

Also, if you go into something like music where there's little chance of success, get a double- or triple-major like mine (DMA, Computer Programming and English) That way you have something to fall back on.

I was just about to say, you better have something else to fall back on because unfortunately musicians get paid CRAP. Always have, always will. Darn shame too, because it's a profession that requires years of hard work and skill.

I'm "grown up" as they would say, but I'm still pretty young, and I really have no clue what I want to do. Maybe get a degree in Media Arts, and some sort of degree in Business...open my own production studio one day, who knows. I'm still testing the waters out there.

Indeed.

I started college later than most due to my having served in the Marine Corps first. Right now I'm a Junior in college, and will be graduating with a BA in sociology in two more semesters. After I graduate, I'm going to attempt to join the Peace Corps and be out of the country for two years, then return and attend a graduate program. I'm still not exactly sure what I want to do, but it'll more than likely involve some type of social work or counseling.
