Upgrading RAM

11 replies 1 views Edited Jan 25, 2007
Quick question.

I have 1Gb (x2 512 DDR2) of RAM for my Laptop and I'm getting Vista soon. So in the mood of things, I'm thinking of upgrading to 2Gb of RAM.

1.) Will I notice a significant difference in speed ? Can you guestimate, how much faster ?
2.) How much could I possibly sell both of my "old" 512mb DDR2 RAM's for ?

THANX

1. Things will boot a bit faster. Estimate? Umm that depends, a couple secs but in games it's more noticeable
2. Sell it on ebay
3. Make sure your laptop can support 1GB sticks.

Alright, thanx. I checked and I think I can grab about $40 for each of my 512's.

Yeah, im pretty sure it can support x2 1gb sticks. They had that option on the website but didn't need it at the time.

Make sure to get ram sticks for the laptop though. Double check by calling them or emailing them, better safe then sorry. Finally if your doing it yourself make sure to be careful, opening up laptops are a pain in the butt.

Congrats on the rankup

And one more question... say I wanted to upgrade by 1GB, is it better to get two 512MB sticks or one 1GB stick?

I would take the 1GB stick, You get more space if you want more later.

You'll definitly notice it you do a lot of PC gaming. Other than that, the respond time will be somewhat faster.

It doesn't matter if we're #000000 or #FFFFFF
