I got into RC cars back in the late 80's. Back then, the gas cars were way too expensive, but I always wanted one.
I started with a Turbo Hopper, boxed no assembly, store bought car. It looked like the Hornet. That Christmas, I asked for and got the Grasshopper. My father made me assemble it myself, which was great. That way I knew how to fix it.
My brother and I got into racing them at North Side Hobbies in Buffalo NY. Eventually, North Side, went to a carpet format, and we had to switch from dirt tires and bodies to foam and stock car bodies.
The next Christmas, We got the RC-10 (Electric again). That thing was awesome, for an electric car. We had tons of fun. The strategy with the electric cars, had a lot to do with battery life. There was this whole process of using a voltmeter to monitor the charge, and these bulbs we used to completely drain all power from the batteries. It was pretty competitive too.
Sadly, all my cars are gone now. I have no pictures either. Just though I would share my story here. That's a sweet truck BT Dubbs. Maybe someday I will get another RC.
