Remote Desktop Connection IP address help!

13 replies 4 views Edited Dec 7, 2006
Hi, I have WinXPpro on my work computer, and WinME2000 on my home computer.
Remote Desktop works on my work computer, I have tried it using other computer at work, but when I go home it will not connect, at home I downloaded the client version off of microsoft.

I figured out that I need a VPN connection, virtual private network, to connect, but I did't want to do that, so I found out that I need the "hosts" computers' actual IP address. So I did some research and went to www.whatismyipaddress.com and used the IP that it gave me. It still will not work

Is there something else that needs to go with the IP address?

Help would be greatly appreciated

If you have a router, it needs to forward the ports to your computer.

Meaning, my router at home needs to be configured to allow port forwarding?

I type the IP address in the Remote Desktop box, do I have to add a port number or something?
