Plasma or LCD for gaming?

79 replies 13157 views Edited Jan 9, 2011

I am looking for a new flat screen to mount. Which TV is better for gaming? Plasma or LCD? I have talked to several people in best buy and they said Plasma is the way to go. My room is not well lit so I would have no glare from a plasma. What do you think?

ive never been a fan of plasma, i dont like the colours, the glass plate with purple gloss, and they run very hot. basically the only decent thing they do is have deeper blacks.

Get a nice LCD/LED with 120/240Hz refresh rate and youll be kicking ass.

Thanks for the help. I wonder why almost every best buy sales person said they would go plasma for gaming? I would also think LCD to prevent burn-in.

Maybe they are told by the company to sell plasmas. Dont listen to them. I think LCD is better for gaming. I read long ago Plasma is not suited for gaming. I may be wrong here. I think you should research a little more on some tech forums.

Well one thing you have to understand is that they are told what to push by the company, but LCD/ LED TV's are the best IMO because the run cooler and have less chance of burning in.

I would say AVOID Plasma TVs for gaming. I currently have a Plasma, and the health bar of the game I was playing burned itself in.

Plasmas usually run at 600hz. (LCDs run at 60, 120, or 240) If you have an actual room for movies or games (no sunlight on the screen, dark room in general) plasmas are superior to LCDs. LCDs are just more popular....get a high end plasma if you can afford it. And they don't burn in unless you buy a pile of sh*t. Burn in is a thing of the past for the most part. Panasonic has some decent entry level plasmas (s1, or s2 series)

Samsing makes decent plasmas as well but I have heard they are the most reliable. If you go LCD get a samsung for sure. preferably a 6 series

Not to put anyone down here, but don't buy a plasma. PERIOD

Plasmas and DLP's have a chance of burn in. Even if the technology has improved, there is still a chance of burn-in. With LCD or LED tvs, you won't have that problem. And I heard they're terrible in lit rooms (which you should be playing in, anyway).

LCD or LED are my recommendations. The prices have gone down over the years, so that shouldn't be a problem.

I am definitely going to go samsung when i do buy a TV. If i end up going plasma, i heard that panasonic make very good plasma TV's. I want at least a 55 inch or 60 inch. LCD in that size are very expensive! Plasma that size have prices that are more reasonable. If i get a LCD do i definitely want 240hz?
