I am a college student; and thusly so, I am on a tight budget which means that I settle for off-brand.

I buy the name brands because the cheaper brands can end up costing me more money in the long run. Like laudry soap. The off brands you have to use more then Tide. So you don't save money really. As far as taste in foods some are ok. It depends on the supermarket chain..

Brands are a gimmick. There are only so many factories...most of your milk and so forth comes from the same place, and is only separated by a little sugar and a colorful sticker.
