Must not of learned your physics. Visualizing yanking and pulling are completely different. Pulling would be considered a constant force applied while yanking is a force quickly applied. The quick apply would be considered an increase of acceleration a "jerk". Overall yanking is different than pulling.
 
For example, when hanging a person, the gravity pulling on the body would not kill the person immediately just strangling them. While if the the rope around the neck was to be yanked (being dropped and a sudden stop), an extreme force is excerted snapping the neck.
