Mythological Ideas used in popular culture

11 replies 3 views Edited Mar 26, 2007
Alright. I have a paper to write on this and hoped maybe some of you had some ideas. Does anyone know any instances where greek mythology was used somewhere in popular culture. I'm not talking about God of War type things where the whole thing is based on it. I mean like Fluffy from Harry Potter being based on Cerberus and the singing putting him to sleep like Orpheus' harp. Any ideas would help. Thanks.

The movie "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?" is loosely based on the Odyssey.

There's a bunch. Some automobile companies are named after Gods like Mercury, Saturn, and ever heard of Hermes? Also, I think the atlas today is refered to the Atlas that was holding the Earth. See something? I don't know if that helps, but I least I tried.Smiley Happy

Oh yeah don't mention it! My class read the Oddyssey and watch that movie right after it so I still remember some of the references if you need em!

Ok well the guy that plays Dan Connor in "Rosanne" has an eye-patch....cyclops?

The person at the beggining and end on the train tracks pumping that thing, the blind one...he represents that religious guy that drinks the blood in their version of hell (this one is kinda hard to remember)

Those 3 hot girls that are singing represent the Sirens

Those are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head. If you really want I could find some more but do some searching of your own and you'll find a lot! I'm glad I can help you!

That's what I was doing all morning. Then I went out with my friends to see Shooter. I knew I shouldn't have procrastinated.
