My computer is driving me insane!

8 replies 1 views Edited Dec 8, 2006
Just recently, my computer would shut off during the middle of 3D games. They don't even have to be good looking ones. What surprises me is that I never had this problem before. I think that it is a CPU overheating problem. Could it be from the fan getting too dusty? Also, I recently moved my computer from my basement which is cold to upstairs which is warmer. Could this be enough to cause my computer to overheat?

Really unlikely for CPU to be overheating if it didn't happen before. First thing to check would be your graphics card, since it only crashes during games.

I believe it is a video card problem.  Try lowering the settings for your computer games.  It could be that you are trying to run the games at much higher settings than is reasonable on your computer.

1. Get a new video card.

2. Buy more RAM

3. Update your drivers.

4. Dust your computer (the inside)

5. Lower quality settings on games.

6. Buy a new computer?

The video card? A little while ago I could run my games on med. settings without my computer shutting itself off. Now, those same games shut my computer off on low settings. Not to mention, I'm on a laptop ,so changing my video card is out of the question.

From the original company? Doing itself is hard work and it's not worth the time and effort. The computer could jsut be crapping out on you.

I assume by crapping out you mean like when computers do something stupid for no reason and then just magically fix themselves? I'm not being sarcastic or anything. I've just had that happen before.
