My Laptop is Slow

16 replies 99 views Edited Jan 10, 2014

It just got incredibly slow over the last few days. It takes like five minutes just to load up google on it. Does anyone know any (safe!) ways to make it faster?

Download and install (if you don't already have them)

http://www.malwarebytes.org/free/

http://www.avast.com/index

Sounds like you might have some malware or a virus.

Go into one of them and scan your computer, it'll tell you.

I downloaded that Malewarebytes things suggested above. It's actually scanning, something my Norton has never done before. Almost 10 minutes of scanning and 14 things detected. Is that bad? How can get rid of these things detected? It's still scanning.

Wait for it to finish. It'll remove the malware for you when it's done.

14 things detected? You need to be more careful and learn how to use a antivirus.

How do I become more careful? What makes the Maleware go onto my laptop? I hope this will fix things up.

Internet safety 101:

Only download from trusted sites. If you torrent, scan it before you use it. Don't open spam emails. Avoid surveys or keygens. Whenever there's updates for your OS, download them. And start scanning weekly. No point in having an antivirus and never scanning your PC.

Incredible! I used that malewarebytes thingy and now it's double the speed it was an hour ago! Thank you so much, everyone! I need to learn more about these things, too confusing.  >.<
