That's a bit of a stretch. Their actions would only be applicable for one day. So yes. I'd be willing to take that risk. The worst they could do is give me a day off from the forums. It's not the end of the world. Smiley Wink

Okay.

You get a day off.

You get back.

They ban you again.

YOUR LIFE IS OVER!

No. There would be a Mod for a day winner once a week not every day of the week. The absolute worst they could do is make me take every say....Monday off. I still have Tuesday thru Sunday. Still not the end of the world. Some peole posting here have already suffered time outs. It obviously wasn't that life altering because they came back and fell right into the same routines.

What if you had an event thread. TCC, Game nights, etc. What if somebody banned you on your day that you updated the thread?

If anything, if this were to heppen, these one day mods would have to have limited powers. Permabanning users without reason is certainly not acceptable by any means and can be an unfair judgement. Banning should be left to the moderators who know what they are doing. Same goes for editing threads.

The best scenario for a mod for a day is simply to lock threads that seem to have run their course over off topic talking in a certain thread on a topic not related to the off topic talking, flaming, and putting down other users, etc.

I clearly stated any actions would only be effective for their one day. A permaban would be impossible. I also mentioned a real MOd would be Modding the temp Mod. They don't just get the day off so locking event threads wouldn't happen 514.

See? Now you're getting into fine tuning details. That's good. Maybe they'd only be the OT Mod for the day.

I probably would at first too. Then I'd laugh it off. Smiley LOL

I'm sure if this contest ever happened (I have no illusions about that) I'd be banned regularly for suggesting it.

No.

They should not even have the power to lock threads.

Can you imagine....

Somebody locking all the event threads!?!?!

The only power that should be given is the power to recommend something to happen immediately. They should not be able to do anything.

I think we all have that power we report mods checks if breaking the TOS mod deletes, lock or whatever Cat Tongue

Notice I said immediately.

You can go report a thread that is obviously avoiding TOS and it wont get locked for another couple hours.

Yeah i noticed my bad also if someone was made a temp mod they should have a different rank like

"Temporal moderators"

"Moderator for a day"

Moderator with limited power"

There should also be guidelines for eligibility to win a moderator for a day status:

I believe these were the guidelines that users needed to meet in the past just to become eligible to become a moderator.

Users must have been posting on these forums for at least one year

Other Message board experience prior to joining recommended

Users must be in good standing with forum staff

Previously been banned makes users ineligible

These four guidelines may be the only way to prevent moderator for a day power abuse.

We should also have to take a lesson from DrGadget

Horrible idea. A vast majority of the members and certainly the ones from OT that would jump at the chance to be a mod are way too immature to handle being a mod responsibly.
