And you wouldnt worry if it actually touched ground?

If it touched ground and you can see it you would more than likely die.

The largest meteor I've ever seen, burned for about 3 seconds. Probably about the size of grapefruit.

This meteor was estimated at 15 meters in diameter; about the size of a 4-story building. Puny in asteroid standards, but just goes to show how even a small asteroid can cause significant damage.

The other (unrelated) asteroid that passed close by today, was 3 times as large. Imagine what damage that would have caused if it hit.

I do feel jealous of those people who managed to see it. Smiley Very Happy But at the same time, glad my eardrums didn't get ruptured.

Ive seen one in real life...

have no idea how big it was but it was like 6am in Miami and I went outside for a smoke...

As I looked up I seen a fireball in the sky then it broke into like 4 pieces... then disappeared on the horizon.

I told people about it but noone believed me, I then tried to go online to see if there was anything documented but couldnt find nothing.

Till this day all my friends think Im crazy and think Im lying.

The Earth is hit by meteors every day. Most of these are about the size of a grain of sand, but hitting the atmosphere makes them into a "shooting star" for a split second. If you were to stand outside at night, you will usually see a few meteors every hour.

I have no reason to believe you're lying, Speedy. The one you saw was probably an airburst, like the Russian event. Meteors will often explode when they hit the thick lower atmosphere. It's like if you threw an egg on the sidewalk; it's going to shatter.

Keep in mind, these meteors are traveling at around 30,000 mph. The air is probably like concrete at that speed.

Unfortunately, yes, people were hurt. About 1,100 people seeked medical attention; mostly from glass shattered by the airburst's shockwave.

This meteor was only 1/3 the size of the asteroid in the Tunguska Event in 1908. Imagine if a Tunguska-sized asteroid (also the same size as the near-miss asteroid a few days ago) were to hit instead.
