To elaborate: Run your virus software every couple of weeks and you'll be fine. Of course, use it after you download big illegal programs and stuff.

May I ask the speed of your computer ?

Shouldn't be slowing down at all. 1GB of RAM? I have a 2.4 and it rarely freezes, and I have a lot of crap running.

You don't need your virus software running real time.

start>run Then type in msconfig. Go to startup and start unchecking things. Then go over to services and uncheck any NON MICROSOFT programs that you think you don't need. hit apply then restart. When the system configuration popup comes up, uncheck it.

See if that helps

What about "Intel Corporations" running under "Services"?  Do I uncheck those too?

And I have a bunch of things under "Startup" that I don't know what they do.  Some have "DRIVERS" in the file name and "system32".
