Leaked PS4 information

139 replies 5539 views Edited Mar 29, 2012

If this is true, Sony has just lost a potential future customer. And it sounds like Home will NOT be included in PS4 either.

Next PlayStation to lock out used games - Report

Sony's 2013-dated new console supposedly code-named Orbis, will boast system that locks games to single PSN account; no backward compatibility for PS3 library planned.

Buckle up, Sony enthusiasts. A tipster has told Kotaku that the PlayStation 4 is named "Orbis" and that it will feature an anti-used-game system, offer no backward compatibility with PlayStation 3 titles, and ship in holiday 2013.

As for the first part of the rumor, multiple sources told the blog that the Orbis will sport some sort of anti-used-game measure. Full Orbis games will be available via Blu-ray disc or as a PlayStation Network download and will be locked to a single PSN account. Players will not be able to circumvent the system by remaining offline, as the source said users will be forced to be connected to the PSN to boot up their games

Lol @Alman as far as the rumors I will believe it when I see it but I know they have been trying to stop the used game sales for a long time. Why? They make absolutely no money off of used game sales so it actually makes them lose money when there are tons of people who want a game but will wait for it to become available used. It's funny knowing that no one other than the seller makes money off of used game sales other than the one selling them because I would chose to pay $55 for a used game when they will give no more than $20 for it thus giving them a pretty good profit, probably more than the Devs get selling it for just $5 more.

Ofcourse doing this will also put thousands if not more out of buisness because companies

Ike GameStop who depend on used game sales would go out of buisness

No Home on PS4? Rubbish! Sounds like rumor and speculation at it's worst, Home is not going anywhere so why would it not be on PS4? Used games have always been a problem for the game industry as far as sales but the idea of locking a game to a console is no different than the network download only being available on 2 consoles max, I never buy used games myself unless it's a title that's out of print. being that we are a long way off from the next console I'd take this with a grain of salt.

I think Home is now profitable for Sony. I doubt it won't continue on the PS4 when that finally arrives. Look at the games we have and have coming. I see nothing but growth for the platform after what they released yesterday. Home took a major step forward with Cutthroats yesterday.

One can only hope that lots of what we've spent money on will be part of any Home scene on the PS4. If that weren't the case then it would been doomed to a quick death in my view if current users weren't included in any new service.

How disastrous would that be if there is another 3 week outage like what happened last spring? That would be a mere hiccup compared to the fallout they would receive if you had to be online to play.

Or Homebodies who primarily play their games during the weekly outage?

But, unless the Orbis is out before December 21st, none of this is going to matter anyway.

This can't be right.  Imagine your roommate buys a game that you want to play on your account for the trophies, well you'll now have to pay.  Imagine you're a parent and buy a game for the family...well either everyone uses one account or you now have to pay extra per person.  Let's say your internet gets knocked out or you find yourself in a situation where you can't afford home internet, your console and all your games are now worthless.

If they make this choice, I will seriously consider going another way next gen.

There was nothing in that blog post or the Kotaku article to suggest that Home won't be part of the PS4. I've heard things that suggest the exact opposite will be the case.

Having watched how used sales destroyed the textbook market, I think it's time that game companies shut out the resellers. Part of the reason we have to pay $50 to $70 for new games is that resale market. Get rid of that, and you can lower the cost of new games.

The other console is planning to do the same thing, so I guess we'll be losing people to the Wii, at least until they figure out how to lock out used games.

Like it or not, this is going to become a standard feature on consoles.

One good thing about Orbis is that it retains physical media, which is a good thing in my book.
