Hello everyone!

I am currently away from my University for summer vacation and will not be back until the end of August. I applied for a job in numerous locations on Satuday. I got a call from Abercrombie & Fitch today saying that I have a job interview for tomorrow.

I have never had a job before, nor a job interview. Is there any advice anyone can give for a job interview? Is there anyone with experiance with a job interview? This will be my first time and, I admit, I'm a bit nervous.

Thank you.

This is your first job so you have to worry about people being nervous that you won't get the responsibilities.  Just be positive, have a few questions to ask such as "what do I have to do, what are my responsibilties every shift" instead of "how much will I make, what kind of breaks to we get"  Smiley Wink.

Money does not matter to me. Mininum wages seems enough. Plus, I can maintain myself, hopefully.

I was the hiring manager for the TJX companies for 2 years and currently take care of hiring for the current place I work.   Just come in with an attitude that says "I'm ready to listen, work, and learn" and the hiring manager will be happy.   Especially at any retailer, most retailers are used to bad employees so if you can come across as fresh and wanting to learn and be helpful it will help.   At least if you came to me it would.

Interesting, thank you.

it depends on the field and type of job.. but all will require some research and preparations..

so what i'm about to say might not apply to your case..

did you prepare a good resume?  make it short and to the point-- list things that related to the job that you are applying for only--

anyway..

for the interview

1- first impression is important-- you only have 1 chance at it Smiley Happy

2- be prepared to answer the questions (keep it short and precise) .. i personally don't like listening to people bragging about themselves.. don't beg either..  the sympathy plea is getting old.... if i'm hiring you.. and paying you to work.. i expect you to work!.. so saying you are a hardworker.. etc.. means nothing to me.. i'll be a judge of that when you are working for me..  but to mention things that will make you stand out.. like teamwork, ability to handle stressful situations.. etc..  when asked.

3- keep good posture and maintain eye contact-- don't do weird hand movements

4- remember to keep language FORMAL ...  don't use  "you know... you know.. " or something similar..  i personally hate  talking to people who use that...

5- thank them for their time (if you memorize their name it will be even better Smiley Happy )   shake hands if allowed..

also.. some said to leave thank you card (hand written) before you go after the interview is also ideal..  write it in the car and drop it at the front desk for the people who interviewed you..

that's all i can remember  from the top of my head for the moment...

Since it's Abercrombie and Fitch make sure they know you are in line with the corporate policy that their clothes don't belong on poor/ugly/overweight people.

I think I can do all of this except for the card part; I don't think I will have time to get one. The employees I met so far seemed nice enough.

Make sure you know all about who is at the top of your corporate structure and impress them with your knowledge of company history! Here's a good start: http://elitedaily.com/humor/the-10-most-ridiculous-things-mike-jeffries-ceo-of-abercrombie-fitch-has...

I'm curious, does Abercrombie and Fitch have a bad reputation?

You really missed all the controversy the CEO caused last year? Look it up.

I'll look it up and conduct further research. I first heard about them when I saw their store at the mall, when I applied for a job. It looked like a nice little clothing store.
