Is this safe?

13 replies 5 views Edited Jan 26, 2007
I'm trying to tennis-proof my basement by hanging blankets from the cieling (attaching to pipes with those wooden clotheshanger clips). The pipes are really really hot because hot water is going through them. If I attach the blanket to the pipe with the clips, is there any danger of it catching fire? It's a thick douve if anyone knows what that is -- like a comforter.

Nah just so the blankets catch my shots -- takes away a lot of the noise too.

So what's the verdict? Safe? Fire hazard?

I wouldn't keep gas down there, that's for sure.

if you can hold the pipe for more than 30 seconds, it's probably safe, otherwise, I wouldn't risk it.

although I find it hard to believe that a hot water pipe would be a fire hazard, seeing as how they usually advise to try to keep the water heated below 120°
