Is a gaming PC worth it?

37 replies 2 views Edited Dec 6, 2006
I was thinking about getting into PC gaming, but I want to know if it's worth it. I know it's a lot of money, but I hear computer games are always on the cutting edge of technology. If I did get into PC gaming, what computer would you reccomend?

PC gaming typically goes by your price range, so if you have the money, that's the best way to go.

Usually if you want a gaming computer you'll have to build it yourself. What is your budget?

I sure think so.  I built a pretty cutting edge computer not too long ago and it's serving me well.  Not only can I play all the latest games without lag, but it's nice to have a powerful machine to use for school and other projects.  A computer can do a whole lot more than a console.

Another (slightly off-topic) question. I was thinking about getting into 3D computer design. Like making custom 3D models out of polygons and stuff. What computer/program(s) would I need to do that? And where can I learn some skills related to that stuff?

Well there's Blender, which is free and open source.  If you really feel like paying money, there's Maya or 3D Studio Max.

If you have a long enough attention span (unlike me) you can teach yourself with some books the old fashioned way.
