How would I "thiefproof" My PS3?

33 replies 265 views Edited Mar 20, 2013
Call me paranoid but I payed $300 for my ps3, and don't want it being stolen and/or sold. So I'm looking for a way to thiefproof my PS3 without voiding warranty. Now, obviously I could take the easy route and put it in a locked cabinet, however there are trustworthy people who I allow to play my PS3 and I can't always be around to unlock it for them when they want to play. So super-creative intelligent people this is your time to shine.<br>For the record I wasn't always this paranoid but I have been robbed before and since, have learned that you really can't be too careful.

Get some metal straps and Mount it to the wall.

The next person who tries to take it better be ready to take down the wall.

make sure you catch the beam

Okay well, thief proof is two words. Write down your serial number of your PS3. PS3 ends up at a Pawn Shop, the shop will be able to track it. Take a picture of the number as well. So you have documention. Most stolen PS3s end up at Pawn Shops these day.

Don't store your password. And don't keep your credit card information stored.

Good luck

razor wire. wrap the entire thing in razor wire then hook a car battery up to the wire.

but honestly, i cant think of a decent thing that wouldnt possibly void the warranty.

one way you could try is like what retail stores do with laptops. get a strong/light/thing metal wire and glue it to the bottom of the device and then attach the other end to some anchor point. only way for them to then steal it is to have wire cutters or to break the system.

however you could construct some sort of "cage" to go around the system and screw into the base of what its sitting on. just make sure you arent blocking the vents.

Remove its components and place them inside an Xbox or Wii's case.

More realistically there isn't anything, short of placing it in brackets and securing them to the studs in the wall, that you can do to the system itself to make it hard or otherwise undesirable for a thief to procure. Maybe making your home in its entirety harder or undesirable to break into would be more practical than securing individual items. If someone is already in your house isn't that more of a pressing issue?

Invest in one of these to make all of your prized possessions "theifproof".

Or you could get an alarm system installed, some HD video surveillance, bars on your windows.... etc etc

^Thats probably your best bet, that's what I did too Smiley Happy

Or lasers. Lots of lasers around your PS3.

I would also suggest maybe just wrapping your PS3 in a metal type of '+' case so you use 2 metal wires and criss cross them tight so that you can attach another metal wire to some sort of anchor point (An anvil, concrete floor, really big brick, anything heavy, êtč.)
