The format of the movie. For example mpeg4, AVI etc.

Why do you need to ask this question? Whatever Movie you are trying to use, you can check it's memory usage by inserting it into a computer and going to Properties/Information, using right click on the disc's icon.

video kbps...audio kbps...format...alot of things effect the size, but most decent movies are anywhere from 700mb to 1.8gbs.

xvid/divX  -  700megs that looks pretty good and 1.4gigs for a high quality one
x.264 - 350megs that looks as good or better than the 700meg xvid.

thats just and average of whats around on the net

oh and there not in HD,320 if your lucky, 720 is around the 4gig mark

The format its encoded onto on the disc is VERY VERY different than the format you would save amovie on your computer as. So checking it this way is worthless.
You can get a full resolution rip of a DVD down to about 700 MB using .avi format.

You can get even less depending on what resolution and what bitrates you save it as. For example, a feature film can fill up a 4 gb DVD, but if you rip it at the same resolution of a Zune you can fit that entire movie (in what looks like dvd quality because its the same res as the screen) in less than 75 MBs of space. I ripped Next to my zune and it only takes up about 58 MB and looks perfect.
