Re: Gay Gamers Thread

[ Edited ]

This is an interesting conundrum. On one hand, the idea of choosing friends based on their sexual preference is a little short-sighted. It does not value good friend traits. Just what type of body you would rather look at and have intercourse with. On the other hand, it is important to find people who accept you for what you are attracted to, and people of the same orientation are obviously not going to be hateful towards it.

I dislike the gaymercon (or gaymerx or whatever it was renamed) idea because it really does separate the community into "gays" and "not gay" which causes issues. For a reference to what I mean, look at the fight to end segregation and racial inequality. Martin Luther King Jr. chose the best option for integration. It focused on eliminating racism slowly and having blacks and whites live together. Malcom X, however, pushed the idea that racial integration was impossible since he believed whites and blacks could never get over racism. He wanted equality, but the whites and blacks to not be run by each other. He wanted real segregation. And luckily MLK's policy won.

So it becomes a battle of exemption vs. a battle of acceptance. I personally believe you should never make someone's gender or sexual preference a major reason to add them or befriend them. I think it is not indicative of their character whatsoever. I think the only way for tolerance to occur is if you integrate into groups of straight people. People often become less bigoted when they are around good people from the hated group. So excluding yourself from these groups because you fear people not accepting you is perpetuating the bigoted ideas. However, I understand how much more secure you may feel in finding someone who likes what you like and will accept you.

well if the gay gamers want to seperate themselves from the rest of the gaming community they should be allowed to just they should make their own forum for that

Why? Because you don't approve of them trying to find fellow gamers that are not going to throw slurs at them while they play? For them to do this they must separate themselves from the entire community?

Sorry but that is not how we as a community should be acting.

I agree with you.  It just the way society is so what can we do?

You're making an issue out of nothing. He's just looking for gay friends on PSN.

I'd suggest using PS HOME if that's the case. Smiley Tongue

Why would they?

I think you're just making waves for the sake of it.
