Very tough question, but I think at the end of the day, it has to be Journey.
Did something fundamentally new with online multiplayer and redfined what a 'game' could be.
Lol, well most important to the industry? -insert old game title here-
As for this generation, I'd say, well all the games that did the best have already been around for 5-10 years...so meh...
Sorry for the misunderstanding, I meant the most important game THIS generation. Not of all time.
Well, we all have our own personal opinions about what is the "Game of This Generation". But I will let the market decide what is the "Game of This Generation" based on sales figures.
According to Wikipedia the best selling PS3 game was Gran Turismo 5 (9.19 million) copies sold.
Best selling 360 game was Call of Duty: Black Ops (13.93 million) copies sold.
Best selling Wii game was Wii Sports (81.64 million) copies sold.
So according to sales figures, the "Game of This Generation" is Wii Sports. The market has spoken.
What is your game of the Generation? Both your personal favorite and what you recognize as the most important game in the industry (still from this generation).
Personally my favorite is tied between Uncharted 3 and Dead Space 2. But the most important is CoD4

My favorite game, in general (franchise as a whole), has definitely got to be Bioshock!!
As for the gaming industry, well, I can't really say, because I don't know. It's better not to say anything than to guess. Besides, things change, especially in these terms.
