Faulty CD/DVD drive?

3 replies 1 views Edited Mar 11, 2007
I was told to wipe out my friends hard drive and install windows.  So I was going to use a Windows XP CD to reformat, but there seems to be a problem.  When I put a DVD in the drive it runs fine, but when I insert a CD, it wont run.  The reason he wanted me to wipe out his laptop was because of all the spyware/viruses he has on there and it's too difficult to fix them all now.  I think I remember hearing about a virus that will not enable the CD drive.  Could he have that on it?  Need some help, thanks.

Anyway maybe its a DVD drive only which is unlikely. Maybe the virus did get to it.
