DIY projects (Do you like doing them?)

8 replies 127 views Edited May 15, 2014

Do it yourself projects (Home/car/etc. repairs)

Of course it's cheaper, but those man-hours really do add up.

Do you like doing them, or do you hire someone to do those projects for you?

I like to do things myself. More fun, and always useful to learn new stuff!

I like 1-time projects.

I hate repetitive projects.

No, I do not. My most hated place in the entire world is (B)Lowes.

Depends. If it's mowing the lawn, sure. If it's more labor intensive (not lazy by any means -- just not that good in that area), then I'd go and hire someone to make sure it's down right and done well.

i have a cousin you has the same way of thinking as you.. mingo..

by paying someone they will do a good job..   Smiley Indifferent

well anyway.. to answer the question of the OP...

DIY projects are like hobbies.. let think games for the moment.. if you enjoy playing games.. do you think the time you spend on playing games..  a waste of man hours??

nah..

DIY... usually save you 50-70% of the cost comparing to hiring someone..  and if you are doing it as hobby.. that's a lot of saving..

since i'm not doing it during my work hours..  i'm doing it during my off work hours..

i have some DIY projects planned for this year.. but at the moment i have no money.. have to wait..  like EPOXY the garage floor, putting in artificial grass for the grass area in the backyard, and replacing carpets with laminate/hardwood for 4 of bedrooms and my office..

I did laminate/hardwood flooring before (my cousin house.. 4 BD) .. it's pretty easy. just need a Miter saw and a $8-$10 tool kit , undelayment (optional- since the expensive laminate/hardwood ones have underlayment glue to the bottom)  and of course laminate/hardwood.. for the edge if you want can use molding or just caulk..  the price of laminate will vary. from $0.89/sq ft to like $3-4 per sq ft.... .. the one i'm looking at are at costco..  $35 a box.. that will only..cover 20-23sq ft.. probably will keep an eye on it.. or wait for a sell from home depot for similar products

one of the benefits of DIY...  is that you know for sure the quality of the parts you are using Smiley Happy

since you can hire someone to do the work.. unless you also provide the parts.. they might just buy something cheap parts.. to maximize profits..

just because you are paying someone money.. doesn't mean they will do a good job.. maybe in the old days.. but now....that's not always the case...
