Computer help! **Edited**

12 replies 3 views Edited Jan 5, 2007
As some of you may know, my sister spilled Coke in my laptop, and it hasn't been working. Just now I tried my sister's old HDD in my laptop, and it worked alright. So this means I just need a new hard drive in my computer? When mine "crashed" It would boot, load the start up programs, and then it would show a Blue screen, shut down, and restart. It would keep doing this. Does that mean Hard Drive failure?

If so, can someone help me find a HDD for a Dell Inspiron 3800? I would like one that I could get in store, like today if at all possiable.

This is the computer

I know it's an older model.
I think it's an ATA, how do I check?

Did it reboot and shut down because of the Coke?

because that is what a virus would do, some make your computer keep rebooting until they crash.

First you need to find out whether your laptop uses SATA or ATA hard drives, and then we can suggest possible hard drives.

I searched google and found that your laptop uses ATA hard drives. How large do you want your hard drive to be, and what is your budget?

Inspiron notebooks aren't going to have SATA drives any time soon.

Not too much money, and this one will need to be bigger than the one I had, which was like 18 gb...

Most stores don't have a very good selection of laptop hard drives at a good price, I found 3 hard drives that would work for you at Best Buy

Hitachi - Travelstar 60GB Notebook Internal Hard Drive 60 GB for $72.99

Hitachi - Travelstar 80GB Notebook Internal Hard Drive 80 GB for $89.99

Hitachi - Travelstar 100GB Notebook Internal Hard Drive 100 GB for $124.99

Does it matter the size of the HDD?

Do you mean the amount of GB it holds or the physical size? The amount of GB does not matter, but the physical size does. To use a hard drive in a laptop it must be a 2.5" hard drive,  desktop computers use 3.5" hard drives.
