Re: Colorado Officially Legalizes the Recreational use of Marijuana

Nov 7, 2012

It is called DOPE, for a reason.

I hung around with people when I was younger, who smoked a lot.  They still smoke a lot, and they have not progressed in life, maturity, or responsibility.  Motor skills are diminished, mental capacity is diminished, and lung damage is greater than that of the "evil" tobacco leaf.

I strongly agree in State's rights, and believe Colorado's decision is valid.  Put something to a vote, and if it passes, then so be it.  As far as the Fed's interpretations, we shall see.  I honestly believe the Fed should stay out of it, as it is a State decision.

If the people of Colorado feel they are up to dealing with the ramifications of such a legalization, then it is up to the State to regulate it and be sure a system is in place to deal with any consequences.

That being said; Marijuana is NOT a harmless drug, despite the common belief.  For medical purposes, it may be effective, if we are talking in cases of severe pain and effects of processes like chemotherapy.

I believe, where California has it wrong, restrictions are still necessary.  Being able to obtain a prescription for head aches, slight depression, or a stubbed toe, is ridiculous.

As far as the "drug war", it is a valid point.  Just because one State legalizes it, it does not make the activities that are associated with it go away.  Sure, people in Colorado can start growing it, in State, but this doesn't stop the illegal trade over the borders from continuing.  It simply provides a safe harbor.

Although it is hard to believe, people die in the trafficking and selling of Marijuana.  Heinous organizations use proceeds from illegal trade to fund acts of violence and terror.  Seriously, this is not an exaggeration.

Good for Colorado.  Smoke all the weed, if you want.  I still don't think the "too big" Fed will agree 100%.

I do find it funny, not HA HA, that potential tax dollars from sales could go to schools.  That has to be some kind of oxymoron.  Nothing helps you study like a huge bong toke (sarcasm).

What ever regulations are made for the State, just don't ask anyone for an ID to get it.  You may be infringing on their rights!Smiley LOL

Hopefully some people from my state, Cali, will move there.

I don't need people that are... high... driving on the streets/highway.

Laugh all you want, but their are tons of accidents each year because of drug usage, including Marijuana.

It's not all funny when innocent kids, women, and men die because someone(s) wanted to get high and drive.

That is part of my point, above this one.  Marijuana is NOT a harmless drug.

My jest was in reference to the users in California.

Driving impared in any capacity is dangerous!  I agree.  No joke was intended toward those who have been affected by those who are irresponsible.

This being said, we do not always have to be sternly serious.

it will be treated the same was as alcohol though, so driving under the influence would still be a crime and so would using it out in the open in a public space.
