Re: Choosing a new car

Mar 20, 2013

Congrats on picking the Elantra!! I would have went for the Ford.  But a Hyundai would have been my second choice. So far, I have driven a Jeep, Toyota, Nissan, Chrysler, Ford, Chevrolet, and Dodge. I personally liked the Ford the best but also, Chrysler was ok to.

I've seen MANY MANY, GOOD CARS get poor marks by Consumer Reports....

To me it seems Consumer Reports keeps the lights on by taking bribes to downplay other cars from the competition.
Heck, they've ranked some of the WORST cars, on their top 10 cars to buy.....

I mean, just because anything from Toyota is on their "Do Not Buy" list, still doesn't stop people from making the Corolla, Camry, Rav4, Prius the best selling cars.... particularly the Corolla and Camry listed by MANY as the best cars of all time.

Also, they're the most reliable vehicles on the planet.....

I wouldn't rely on Consumer Reports ever, if I were you.... Theres plenty other magazines who give an unbiased and fair review/preview on cars.

I'm sorry but where are you getting your facts from?  You make it sound as if Consumer Reports is a joke...  "Also, they're the most reliable vehicles on the planet" Say's who?  Toymotor?  That is not saying a lot...  You?  What makes you an expert on this topic?  Why should I take your word over the Consumer Reports who's job is to over look these things?

Also did you watch the youtube videos that I posted?  When you watch the videos you see how unreliable Toymotor realy is.

I'll post them again...

Also can't forget this one that was posted on CNN not to long ago.

Reliable, no they are not reliable at all.

Because of the fact that almost all car reviews are SUBJECTIVE.... just like your opinion is.

Trusting only ONE source, and piggybacking off of "ancient" news stories doesn't do much.

People are still going to buy whatever brand they choose regardless of the media.

So trying to disinform others, especially in this thread, is an exercise in futility.

I'll second the opinion. Toyota does a very good job at making reliable, reasonably priced cars.

The real question is, have you owned one, and was it a problem for you?

The follow-up to that is, did you buy a used lemon?

Please don't waste our time with personal feelings that aren't based in reality. I stated in my earlier post that I hate GM and Korean cars, but I will praise the OP for picking what they feel is a good car, and I hope it stays good for many years to come.

See, I didn't slam anyone. Take the hint.

As a mechanic I will say one thing, toyota camry's and corolla's are the cars I reccomend to family on low budgets who want a car that is very unlikely to break down and when it does isn't overly expensive to repair.

Just felt like I needed to toss that in @ this point Smiley Tongue

I wouldnt get mad at all... Check it if you go on my IS300 and look around at the parts. Almost every single part says Toyota even the exhaust.

If someone would get mad at that then they dont know where theyre car originated from.

Honda rules! I'm getting a new Honda CRV.

Even if I won the lottery. I don't need a fancy car or just getting it for show. Honda is most reliable and can't go wrong. I've had my accord for years and getting ready for a new one. I will live and die by Honda always!

Congrats!

I'm sorry but are you reading any of my post's?  "Just like my opinion is"?  I never gave my opinion on anything.  I've talked about how Toymotor is on Consumer Reports do not buy list more then any other car companie.  I also posted video's of people that have had nothing but problems with Toymotor's.  Also in thoes videos there are strong links that Toymotors are killing people.

As I just just pointed out I never was trusting just one source.  If you re-read my posts I also posted youtube videos from ABC news and CNN news both warring there vewers of the possible dangers of owning a Toymotor.  If I remember right it was some of these same reports that put Toymotor on Consumer Reports do not buy list.

People will buy what ever car is best for them not "whatever brand they choose".  People with the right facts are better at making the right decision.

What!!!?  "So trying to disinform others especially in this thread, is an exercise in futility."  lol, that is to funny.  Now if I asked how I'm disinforming others I know I would never get an answer back.  Why?  Well the easy answer is I used links to back everthing I said up.  Consumer Reports?  Just ask and I will give you tons of pages where they show the results of there testing of the Toymotor cars.  Real funny part is they even have videos where they put a Toymotor right next to another car and you get to see just how bad the Toymotor fails every time.  What else did I post?...  Oh, yea!  Links from Youtube showing CNN and ABC news talk about how bad Toymotor is.  Wow!  You should report that they are disinforming there vewers....  LOL

Yes, they have many models for a few model years that are on the do not buy list, most based on the Camry platform and specific to the acceleration issue. Every manufacturer has had issues. Toyota has been held high on a pedestal for being far and away better than the rest, I don't think so, but you are making them out to be pure evil. Did they handle this the best way? No, not a chance.

I'm sure that if you go back over the history of Do not buy list on CR, that Toyota is not on the top. The 80's and part of the 90's were not good to American car makers. Remember the Ford Explorer tire blow outs? Not handled well either and it got on the CR DNB list too. Dodge just recalled the Charger and told their owners not to drive, that is what I would suggest is the way to handle a recall.

Having said that I think getting the information is great, but your casting a net over every car they ever made, and not the specific models that have had dangerous issues.
