China strike reportedly suspended Apple iPhone line

2 replies 66 views Edited Oct 7, 2012

A US-based labor watch group says thousands of workers went on strike at a plant in China and halted production lines of Apple's iPhones.

The group says more than 3,000 workers staged a strike over working conditions on Friday at a plant run by Foxconn in Henan Province.

Foxconn is one of Apple's major contract manufacturers and a group firm of Taiwan's electronics maker Hon Hai Precision Industry.

The strike follows a brawl at another Foxconn plant in Shanxi Province in late September. 2,000 workers were involved in the fight.

In a separate incident, a Hong Kong newspaper reported a clash between thousands of workers and police at a factory in Guangdong Province which makes parts for the iPhone 5 Smartphone.

China doesn't usually tolerate labor strikes.  There will probably be a big showdown over this.  I expect the worst.

Foxconn is a terrible company, which is a shame considering how many different companies they manufacture for. Sony, Mircrosoft, Amazon, and of course Apple.
