Kimba the White Lion was a more subtle rip-off of Bambi.

The Lion King is actually based off of a novel called "Simba." Like most Disney titles they just take an existing storybook and put a spin on it.

The wiki although making good points is like most wiki's. Incomplete.  The novel came out some time well before either.  The artistic similarites are there sure. I'm currently scouring to see if I can find the novel for you.

I read the book. Some time ago, but I read it. All (edit) most Disney major motion pictures come from books or stories already out for some time.
