Car pooling/sharing or getting up early?

[ Edited ]

Hi guy, I'm back after a week of work.

In the recent week, I've bought myself a car, it's not new, in fact, it's an old-like-earth Mitsubishi Piece of Rust, but it done it job quite perfectly and I find myself comfortable driving around town with it, despite the fact some of my Co-Worker keep telling me Asian should not drive.

Anyway, the reason I started this post is not about telling you I got a new car, It's because of my Co-Worker, Thomas A. Stevenson, I'm not sure what the letter A in his name mean. Anyway, Steve live in the same neighborhood as mine, we go to work at the same time, took the  same road to work and we always find ourselves stuck in the traffic jam. Steve told me, it would be wise to wake up early and go to work early, sleep in our car and wait until work hour.

I said hell no, and told him how about we do Car Pooling, or Car Sharing like they say in Britain. Car Pooling/Sharing is an act where two or three more people go to work together on one person car, It's like hitching a ride but for worker, source Wikipedia, the purpose of it is to reduce the amount of vehicle on the street during work hour, thus reduce traffic congestion/ jam.

I found that by sharing car, it's more efficient to go to work, since me and Tommy live near eachother and go to work at the same time.  But he dismissed me and tell me it's not gonna work. I told him, in my vision, if the road was one car away from getting jam, this plan would work, because one car save more spaces than two car, and my Mitsubishi is HUGE. He told me he would reconsider it.

So anyhow, I just wanna ask, which is more efficient and viable, Tom plan or mine??

Car pooling can suck, remember if they drive and have to work late you are stuck, something comes up and you need to leave early you are stuck.

We work at the same place and same time so problem 1 is solved. About problem 2 though, you maybe right, but if we are cool enough to share car, I can might as well borrow it for a good reason, I hope

Car pooling is great. Been doing it for the last year. Like what is said if an emergency comes up and you need to leave, it's not easy if you carpool. If it came up for me I'd call a Taxi and get a ride. So far if I have an appointment or something we drive seperate, but that's been  3-4 times so far this year. Otherwise it's nice ot sit back and relax while somebody else drives.

You should find some cow-orkers who don't spew rude racial comments at you like this.  You shouldn't drive?  How about tell them they shouldn't talk.  Ever.

Anyway, both plans have merit for different reasons.  If you get tthere early and sleep in the parking lot, you will spend less time on the road.  If you carpool, you will have better parking and save LOTS of gas.

You could combine these two.  That is if both of you can comfortabley sleep in the same car.  I doubt you will be able to do this for long.  One of you snores.  The other hums or asks stupid questions while you're trying to sleep.

If you carpool, you want to get 2-3 friends in on it.  If there are 4 of you in the car, and you take turns driving, then you're only driving one day in 4.  It's like getting 400% better mileage.  Also, you are only putting 25% of the road miles on your car.  It will be worth more when you trade it in, unless it's a billion year old Mitsubishi Rust Monster.  But hey, it should last longer.  Think about that.  Maybe it only has another 30,000 miles left in it.  By driving less frequently, you can make it last until you're sick of it and want a new car, rather than have it fall apart and you NEED a new car.  See the difference?

The problem with carpooling is that 75% of the time you don't have your own car.  So if you have to run errands at work, you can't.  But maybe you could have a bicycle at work somewhere for getting around without a car.  You should save enough in gas to buy a bike if you carpool with 3 other guys.

Car Pooling is only a great idea when 3 or more people are involved.... this spreads out the cost of fuel easier and you guys can each change cars each day to reduce overall wear and tear so that you'd only use your car 2 or 3 times a week, depending on the rotation.

Just 2 people.... no very viable.

The downside to car pooling, is having to wake up earlier in the morning and having to drive to one anothers house to pick each other up and HOPEFULLY not wait on each other.

Carpooling is ok..  Nothing beat driving your own car though.
