Depending on the game, sure.

Seconded. A game like Tetris can help in regards to eye hand co-ordination, and a game like Brain Age can test your memory.

Games in general can help in that regard to a point. Having to remember controls and locations, etc.

Gran Turismo maybe if you want to include the GT academy tv show, where 10 selected gamers go straight from their racing seat setups at home straight to the Racetrack in a real racecar.

I don't think they make you smarter. The only thing video games are good for is to pass the time and to entertain people.

Basically, any game can make you smarter. It all depends though. Some games can influence the choices you do in real life.

Puzzles. Oh yes, puzzles. Portal 2 for example made me feel a little bit smarter. It had me concentrating and wondering how to solve something, it also required patience.

First Person Shooters. Love them. FPS. Call of Duty..4, for example showed me that being a Sgt. in the miltiary is not a fun, easy, cool job. It made me realize that there are people doing what I'm doing in a video game, in real life.

Simulations. Virtual life. Simulation. The Sims 3, it made me realize that I can't slack off at work, or just simply afford an item. You have to start from a certain point in order to achieve what you want. School actually taught me this already, but the Sims 3 expanded it.

Does it make you smarter? Yes.

Simulators are basically video games with large setups that are used to train people before they are ready to go out and do the real job.

Took the words right out of my mouth, if all you do is play mindless shooters how is that going to help in your dating life?

just as much as any other activity that requires brain function. the learning curve often slopes early though.
My hours live in double time
A headache lives between my eyes
I hold it hostage to a fault
Blame it when I lose my sight
It makes me so frustrated on the daily
Bear with me as I lose my cool
I swear it's only momentary
